About This Spot

Stepping into Golden Pride on Central Avenue feels like returning to a familiar corner of Albuquerque, where the hum of a busy kitchen blends with the warmth of long-standing tradition. This is a place where routine meets ritual, and locals move through the drive-thru or pull up a seat with quiet purpose, hungry for something hearty and honest.

The pace is steady and welcoming, never rushed but always attentive. Behind the counter, cooks work with practiced ease — their hands know exactly how to balance the spice of New Mexico green chile with the smoky comfort of barbeque and the satisfying heft of a breakfast burrito. There’s an authentic rhythm here, grounded in decades of familiarity and care. It’s the kind of spot where a bite of barbeque ribs or a serving of green chile stew practically feels like a small celebration of home, no matter the time of day.

Golden Pride’s atmosphere carries the layered stories of regulars who’ve made it a part of their routine — families passing down a favorite stop from one generation to the next, neighbors drawn to the simple joy of well-made comfort food. Despite the modest exterior, inside there’s a genuine pulse fueled by folks who understand the value of a meal seasoned with tradition and served without fuss.

At Golden Pride, it’s not just about filling up — it’s about the moments between bites: sharing a laugh over a plate piled high with ribs and sides, the familiar exchange at the window during a busy rush, or the quiet satisfaction of a breakfast burrito that hits just right. This isn’t simply a barbecue joint or a place to pick up dinner; it’s a quiet anchor in Albuquerque’s everyday life, rich with local flavor and the steady, unspoken comfort of food made with intention.

The Golden Pride! un Wabo has the best cook in Albuquerque! None of the other golden prides can compare to the taste of their food and the present presentation of the food! I have had several other Golden Pride!’s and their burritos fall apart, and the paper is all full of chili and soggy! The cook, Javier does all of his ingredients perfectly! The lead, Cook Helena, always is on top of her helpers! Ryan, the one that makes the hashbrowns is on top of his game and never makes them like mashed potatoes! Top it all off with Jamie the supervisor and you have one amazing team!

I've been coming here for about 27 years. They have expanded the restaurant a while back. The food is great. My favorite is carne Adobada. I just wish they put a little more carne adobada in their burritos. Especially in their #2 burrito. That is the only complaint that I have from that restaurant. The place serves 2 drive-through lines when they get busy. The lines can get pretty long, but they usually have a few people taking orders outside, so it makes it faster.

We usually visit the east central location, today it was the drive through at the west central location. You can't beat the fried chicken, best fast food chicken in town! We also enjoy the green chili stew. The outside of the building is run down. I would like to see them spend some time and money upgrading the property.

Always quick while being always busy! Best burritos hands down. Chicken is also great! Affordable on prices as well. Can’t beat it been going there since my parent’s used to take me, now I take my own kids there. Tradition
